“We've come from the same history - 2000 years of persecution - we've just expressed our sufferings differently. Blacks developed the blues. Jews complained, we just never thought of putting it to music.”
“The trumpeter is beautiful to behold, graceful and elegant, just like our Ms. Swan. But if you disturb a trumpeter, trespass through its territory, or threaten its nest, it will hiss like a cobra and attack with the viciousness of a wolf. That is the black swan side.”
(I was honored to photograph the great trumpeter Dough Woolverton for his superb music projects. This photograph came the the NYLO Hotel series).
"There's a time in your life where you're not quite sure where you are. You think everything's perfect, but it's not perfect... Then one day you wake up and you can't quite picture yourself in the situation you're in. But the secret is, if you can picture yourself doing anything in life, you can do it."
The Leahy family have a multigenerational connection to their farm by the sea. Just down the coast from the Cliffs of Moher in Lahinch, Ireland, they live a poetic life...quiet, focused, a deep connection to the land and animals and family. I have taken hundreds of photographs of the Leahy boys during my visits to County Clare and watched them grow from afar. This photo of Eoin was taken in his "backyard" as he was giving me a tour of his work/playground.
How lucky you are to live in the land of Yeats and his fellows.
I am envious.
But not as green as Ireland.
“They could see she was a real Princess and no question about it, now that she had felt one pea all the way through twenty mattresses and twenty more feather beds. Nobody but a Princess could be so delicate.”
~Hans Christian Andersen
